Located at 15a Devonport Rd in downtown Tauranga, the Pilates Loft is a light filled space, a stones throw from Tauranga’s The Strand and waterfront. The Loft operates Monday to Saturday and focuses on an authentic/classical approach to Reformer Pilates sessions (Private and Small Group) and Studio Pilates Mixed Apparatus sessions.

The Pilates Loft was started by Lizzy Saunders and Stephen Hahn.

Stephen Hahn, Owner and Instructor,  initially became aware of Pilates in his late 20’s when a ballet dancer friend casually mentioned doing a 6 week stint of Pilates to get back to being “stage fit” before a tour. This intrigued him but he’d tried yoga and though they were basically similar so didn’t pursue it further. It wasn’t until  his mid 30’s  that Stephen took the plunge and tried Pilates for himself. After his  first session he knew it was a “smart” way to work the body and the mind, that it was very different to yoga and that he wanted more. What followed was years of personal practice and training in all various styles, from Classical to Stotts and Polestar, covering Reformer, Mat, pre-post natal and Apparatus.

In early 2012, when still living and working in Bondi Australia Stephen and his partner  made the decision to move to Tauranga to be close to family and open a studio. To ensure his training was as current as possible he undertook further qualifications with Sydney’s leading Pilates facility Elixr. After completing the training he relocated to Tauranga in April 2014. Stephen started working from the Reformer room at BodyZone Gym as well as taking Clinical Mat sessions for Mount Physio and Pilates and general Mat sessions for Pilates Fitness Studio in Papamoa, here he met Lizzy Saunders. Soon after he relocated from BodyZone to her Reformer studio in Grey St. Together they decided to create an outstanding Pilates space in Tauranga and hence The Pilates Loft on Devonport Rd was created. In November 2016, with an ailing mother and her own family to care for,  Lizzy decided to focus on her family and withdraw from the business.  It is hoped Lizzy will return to teaching Pilates in the future.

Mid 2018 Stephen began the process of Bridging his existing skills and qualifications into a Full Authentic Certification via Authentic Pilates Education International.

Andrea Lloyd,  Instructor, was first introduced to Pilates after having children and quickly  realised it was an efficient and effective form of exercise, which not  only toned the body but created a mind-body awareness that was lacking  in many other sport and fitness regimes.

Andrea has a slight preference for the Reformer, due to it enabling easy modifications of exercises to an individuals needs.  Andrea enjoys incorporating new exercises as well as  mastering the classical routine.  A favourite quote is often uttered in  her classes “if it’s easy, it’s not Pilates”!

Andrea also works alongside Jodi Todd at the Strength, Stretch and Control studio in Papamoa. Andrea’s commitment to professional development has seen her recently complete additional training in both Mat and Reformer Pilates in an Auckland based facility.

Andrea is currently undergoing full Comprehensive Certification via BASI Pilates and has completed her face to face hours, She is now available  for Private Studio Sessions.
