The Pilates method is a physical movement program designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Pilates exercise focuses on postural symmetry, breath control, abdominal strength, spine, pelvis and shoulder stabilisation, muscular flexibility, joint mobility and strengthening through the complete range of motion of all joints. Pilates emphasises posture and alignment, concentration, stability and mobility, control, centring the core and correct breathing. The focus is on quality, not quantity. The abdominal muscles, lower back, and buttocks serve as the center of all movement, allowing the rest of the body to move freely. This focus on core stabilisation creates a stronger body from the inside out. Balance between strength and flexibility creates a healthy, vigorous, and symmetrical workout for all muscle groups resulting in a leaner, more balanced, and stronger body.
